memorial day weekend

After Luke's first week of working ridiculous hours we were already ready to leave town. We decided that our first road trip would be to St Louis since you can go visit there cheap, and leave the good trips like Mall of America and Chicago until we get a few paychecks :) We decided to get up early on Sunday and go and just stay one night. So after Luke got off work on Saturday we decided to venture around Cedar Rapids a little bit. One of Luke's law school friends is from here and he said we must try the Flying Wienie. So we decided to give it a try.
It is a local place that is owned by a guy from Chicago. So of course when you go there you get the Chicago Dog & some hand cut fries. It was pretty good!

Sunday morning we got up early and headed to St Louis. We arrived around 1 and headed straight to the zoo. Jack was very excited to go to the zoo. St Louis has a whole park that includes museums, the zoo, and beautiful parks that are all free. It is a really fun place if you want to get away!
We even happened to run into some law school friends from Kansas, Adam & Emily. It is a small world!

Every exhibit Jack had to stop and climb the fence and watch the animals.

We went on a train ride. It started raining but we still had more of the zoo to see.
The train ride took us through some tunnels, I love how Jack is holding his hands.

The zoo taught him to be an even better lion. He is pretty scary!
Jack is laughing because the penguins splashed him!

Some of the animals we saw......

Later that night we went to Cheesecake Factory, yum.

Jack loved the hotel, jumping on the beds is the best!
It was so nice to get away and spend time with our family even though it was a quick trip. Stay tuned for the next road trip!
