Fathers day

i know a week late......

This year we had a nice relaxing father's day. Hanging out, Luke doing what he loves and watching golf all day long with Jack, and then a relaxing evening at the park and then going home for dessert. I love the father of my child!!
Jack is so blessed with the most amazing father! He works so so hard for our family and then after a 12 hour day he comes home ready to be a good father. He never complains about working so hard and is always willing to come home and have a fun-filled night with our family. He is a very determined person that can pretty much accomplish anything. He is very funny, which luckily Jack has inherited his humor. Jack loves to wrestle, play ball, read books, feed ducks, and do pretty much anything with Luke. Jack loves him so much!

Jack & I made this card for Luke and then I made Luke a tres leches cake. It turned out really yummy! Luke is also getting a trip that he has been dreaming about since he was a little boy. On Friday he will be sitting in Wrigley Field watching the Cubbies. So I am pretty sure he had a great father's day!

we were sad to not be with our fathers that day, but we appreciate all they have done in our lives. We were both blessed with amazing dads that sacrifice a lot for their families. we love you!!

our adventures the last couple of weeks

When Luke is not working we are almost always out looking for an adventure. We are always looking for something new to do. So here are some things we found the last couple of weeks.....

On Saturday I was dying to get out in the sun. We haven't had the best weather so we haven't really been out swimming yet this year. It has finally warmed up, but the humidity has followed so if you are outside you have to be in the water. I had heard of a couple of lakes with beaches around so we decided to go find one. We ended up going to a beach that Luke found online, it is at Lake Mcbride. Oh my, it was the perfect beach! We had so much fun! The lake was pretty good sized but they don't allow speed boats on it. They let pontoons, fishing boats, sail boats, canoes and kayaks and paddle boats so you can go out and it is so relaxing. Jack ran out into the lake before we could even take our clothes off. We had to hurry and run after him.Jack loved digging in the sand.
This is my fabulous pedicure. Luke "forced" me to go get a pedicure on Thursday night. I was hitting a breaking point and needed some alone time. It was wonderful, I love him.

Jack decided that he was going to try and stand on his head. He seriously sat there for like 5 minutes. He is so funny.

Then after enjoying the beach for a few hours we rented a paddle boat for an hour. I didn't bring my camera but it was way fun. It was the most relaxing day. There is some beautiful homes around the lake that we were drooling over, we came home and looked and one was for sale for 1.2 million, oh well it was fun to dream.

We also ventured out to a baseball game. We have been trying to go to a game for a while but it seems like it is always raining on game days. So Thursday night when it was good weather we decided to go. We sat in the grass section so Jack could run. That will come back and bite us in the butt later. I know this picture is so gross, but how can you go to a baseball game without getting a hotdog!

It was NFL night and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders were there to perform. It was pretty hilarious every time they would come out all the little boys would run up to the fence with their cell phone camera. Little boys are gross.
Oh and big boys are gross too. Seriously they would stand there with their cameras and record their whole performance.

There are splash pads all around town and many of the public parks. It is a great way for the kids to get cool. Jack and I went before we had to go get Luke one day and Jack had a blast.

He kept jumping around, i loved it.

Getting ready to run..... ready, set, GO!

A couple weeks ago we heard about an arts festival in Iowa city, so we decided to go check it out. We actually really like Iowa City. It is a lot like Lawrence of course since it has the University of Iowa there. They have an awesome downtown area, I would dare say that it almost beats out Mass Street in Lawrence. Right in the middle of the street they have a playground for kids, how great is that! They also have and awesome library right there too.
There are a variety of shops and restaurants all down the street, one of our favorites was a market. They have all sorts of food, fresh juices, and cookies.
Walking down the street enjoying the live music and booths full of art.
They had all sorts of food vendors. Jack loved the steak kabobs. We also had some awesome grilled corn.

thanks Iowa City for making us feel like we were back in good ol' Kansas for a day

childrens museum part 3

then we went to one of jack's favorite, the ball room

they had all kind of things they could do with a golf ball, send it through a roller coaster
you had to try to send it down he chute and land the ball in the bucket, while the bucket went around in a circle
and they even had a train table, he could spend hours with a train table
then off to the construction set.....

and the lego room
and finally to the farm.....

whew, we did a lot and we didn't even go to all of the rooms!! It is definitely a 2 day event. Good thing we have all Summer!

childrens museum part 2

then we were off to the pizza kitchen.....

then we went and saw how other children around the world live....

and took a drive in the ambulance to the hospital.........he was such a good little doctor taking care of the baby

childrens museum part 1

Last week I took Jack to a children's museum, we had a great time. There was plenty of stuff to keep us entertained for a few hours, we will definitely be going back!! It was fun to sit back and watch and take pictures while Jack went exploring!

They had a market that Jack had so much fun with. Pushing around the little carts and shopping for the food he wanted, it was so cute to watch him. Then he got to act like a cashier and ring up all the food, so fun!

up

Last Saturday we went and saw "UP". We LOVED it. After we got past the shock of it being $27 for a matinee, we really enjoyed it. Jack sat with his glasses on and didn't move through the whole movie. It was a fabulous movie.

I am glad that I get to make my own adventures with Luke and Jack, even if it is just simply eating ice cream and feeding ducks. I love my 2 boys!

what we do in iowa

1. we go to the park

After Luke's LONG day of working and our LONG day of waiting for him to get off we usually are all ready to get out of the house and get outside. We will either go after dinner or bring dinner to the park. Jack LOVES to run and explore so the park is perfect.
For some reason he has been scared of everything lately. This is us being good parents and forcing him down the slide.
2. we go feed the ducks

There is a fabulous duck pond in town. We go feed the ducks about 4 times a week. It is Jack's favorite thing to do. (this started in Utah with Aunt Bree) He always says "I feed ducks?" So after dinner we usually head over to the duck pond. One day all day long I told him we could go feed the ducks when Luke got home, so we decided to pack up dinner and eat it at the park. We got everything all packed up and headed out to go pick up Luke and when we walked outside it was raining. I should have checked the weather. But after telling Jack ALL day long that we were going to feed the ducks there was no way we were going to not be able to go. So we went and ate in the rain under a pavilion and Jack feed the ducks. He loves it.
He always tries to make friends wherever we go. He was so nice to share his bread.

There are a couple sets of babies that are darling.

3. we eat ice cream

A weird thing about Cedar Rapids is that there is a Dairy Queen on every corner. They don't sell any food just ice cream, I guess people in Iowa really love ice cream. Jack is right there with them. One of his new favorite things to do is to go get an ice cream cone. (both Grandpas started this in Utah) So if we are bored we will head over and grab an ice cream cone.
