we have arrived (and survived 2 weeks)...........

in Iowa

As soon as we got back to Kansas we got all packed up and we had to head to Iowa so Luke could start work on Monday. It was a busy weekend. We decided that it was too expensive to rent a U-haul so we crammed all of our essentials that we would need to live for the next 4 months into our Outback. We LOVE our Outback, it has been a lifesaver. We got everything we needed to in the back, but like I said we only took the essentials (no stroller, very little toys, and a whole list of things that we take for granted living in Kansas in our nice town house)

Now about our apartment
We came up here to Iowa over spring break and searched for a place to live. We had no luck, no one would do a 4 month lease. So we left feeling pretty frustrated and decided we would just have to look on line. Finals were getting close so there wasn't any time to come back up. We looked everyday online trying to find a sub-lease. We didn't have much luck. There are a lot of subleases in Iowa City, where the university is (about 25 minutes away) but with us only having 1 car it wasn't really an option. We cut it really close but a couple of weeks before we were supposed to be here Luke spotted a sublease online. He immediately told the lady we wanted it. We didn't have a chance to look at it. I was nervous, Luke was nervous. So we pulled up on Sunday to the address and I tried not to cry. The girl meet us outside, so I never had a chance to cry, and took us inside. It is not in the best area, it does have a secured entrance. Or a wooden door that looks all beat up that you have to unlock to get into the building. I was very nervous walking in to see where I had to live. Once we got inside we handed her a cashiers check and she left. The one good thing is she had left it really clean- good thing or I would have been on the next flight back to Salt Lake. She left her furniture for us to use which also makes it interesting, but I guess it was nice, there was no way we could bring our furniture up.

So here it is:

The HUGE tv and beautiful chairs, we were trying to watch a movie the other night and were laughing because we couldn't read the descriptions on the screen, we are getting old!
the rest of the front room, we only had one couch cover so I will only sit on the 1 couch, the coffee table/art table/dining table
the kitchen-pretty much the size of a broom closet (it usually has stacks of drying dishes everywhere because we don't have a dishwasher and there isn't any counter space to place the drying dishes), the oven barely holds a cookie sheet-but only if it is slanted, it is a cooks dream!
We have no yard at all, so Jack entertains himself while we are home by looking out the window into the neighbors backyard, we have seen lots of chipmunks and birds and we even saw a bunny. How is that for entertainment!
the pros:
-it is only a mile to Luke's work
-like I said, she did leave it clean
-it was a good price

the cons:
-we brought a folding table and chairs, but there isn't room to put them, so we eat on the couch
-it is a pretty dark apartment, even with the window open, I still feel like we are in a basement all day long
-we are sleeping on a full size bed (when one of us is 6"5' it doesn't work out so well)
-there is no dishwasher and No washer and dryer (laundromat here we come)
-Jack is in a pack-n-play and is growing out of it fast
-it is not in the best part of town, the other night we came home to a guy dumpster diving in our dumpster

So it will be an interesting summer to say the least. I am sure we will look back on this time and laugh at what an adventure it is! The thing that keeps me going is what a good central location we are in. In 4 hours or less we can get to Chicago, Minneapolis, St Louis, and Kansas City. And we are only 2 hours from Nauvoo. So road trips here we come.

We are very excited to go to church on Sunday so we can meet people.

We do feel very blesses to have a job this summer so we can't complain!
the things we do for a paycheck :)

utah

here are the pictures I took in Utah on my camera, they are really random and I wasn't a very good picture taker. I will have to get the pictures on everybody else's camera because I didn't have mine with me very often, but here is what I do have!

Going to Utah made me realize how I am really ready to have a house, actually a backyard. Jack was in heaven running around outside all the time. He climbed the trees, played ball, and could run all he wanted to.

As soon as Luke arrived one of our first stops was the golf store. Of course Jack convinced Luke he needed his own set of clubs.... aren't they cute!

We were glad to b in town with our moms for mother's day. We had a great day of relaxing, going to church, eating dinner with our moms, and visiting with family. We love our moms and we were glad we were in town this year. I love being Jack's mom!!!
I turned the big 25 while we were there!! We spent the day with family. Going to Thanksgiving Point gardens for lunch with mom, Summer & Andy, Carrabas with Luke's family for dinner, and back to Summer's for cheesecake for dessert, yum! Then we went to a late night movie with my mom and Summer & Andy (we saw Ghost of Girlfriends Past, possibly the stupidest movie any of us have ever seen, and I LOVE Matthew, but it was awful)But it was still fun. Thanks for making the day special everyone!
I got spoiled by the family. Money from both parents (so nice to have some spending money), a cookbook and shirts from Bree (the cpk cookbook, can't wait to try it out!), and Summer bought me the American Girl doll Samantha!! I love her, she is so pretty. :) She is being retired and I have always wanted her!

Then Tuesday started the real reason why we went to Utah. Bree got married!!! The Saturday before we got to go with her to take out her endowments, it was a very special day. Then Tuesday night they had their wedding dinner at Los Hermanos, and then wednesday they got married in the afternoon at the Mt Timpanogos temple. I will have to get more pictures but again this is what I had on my camera. Bree looked gorgeous and it was a perfect day! Then they had their reception at the Alpine Arts Center. Here are a couple of pictures from the reception.

We were glad that we got to see Luke's grandparents while we were there. We haven't seen his Grandma in 2 years and it was so nice to see her. She loved Jack and Jack loved her. She surprised him with a toy tractor, he loves it!
Jack also got to spend lots of time with his cousins. He loved every second of it.

we always have a good time and we are always wishing for more time when it comes to an end. we miss our families dearly and hope it isn't too long before we are closer to them!

when I get more pictures I will post them!

last play day

Before we left to go to Utah we had to get out with our friends one last time. We went to Deanna Rose farm. It is always a good time for the kids. Here are Jane, Jack, Bailey, and Nyah on the fence looking at the fish.

Jack loves to climb
Jane and Jack holding hands (even though they kind of struggled the last little bit getting along, Jack really misses his Jane! What are we going to do without her next year!!)
The goat got a little too close
the bunnies
climbing again
Jack and Nyah
Jack and David milking the cow
Jack and Owen watching the missionaries hard at work. The missionaries work at the farm for service, how fun to see them!
Jack feeding the goats a bottle. This is the favorite thing to do. The goats all fight over the bottle. We went with Summer and Avery here and Jack and Avery still talk about the goats all the time.
Jack was frustrated because the tractor was too big for him.

We love all our friends!! We are so grateful that we have such good friends and we are going to miss Tiff, Bailey, Alyssa and Mandy, Jane, Annie and Melissa, Payton, & Piper next year!!
